Investigation Discovers Blind Spots in GRTC Driver Oversight

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA – The GRTC was recently shocked by a fatal accident, which occurred when a Transit System bus driver hit a pedestrian. The fatal accident was foreshadowed by a previous case where a pedestrian was walking to a state job, crossed in a pedestrian crossing and was hit by a 20-ton turning bus. That claim was settled for a jury award of $8 million.

Off-duty NYPD cop charged with DWI after crashing into parked car

NEW YORK—According to court papers, an inebriated off-duty police officer capped off St. Patrick's Day by slamming his car into a parked car in Queens. Officer Matthew Woods, a five-year vet who works narcotics, was not injured when his Subaru flipped from the force of the collision.

Bus Driver Charged with Minnesota DWI

MINNESOTA — Passengers notified police of drunk driving while driver was on his route. Alonzo V. Martin, a Minneapolis area Metro Transit driver, was stopped after passengers and a motorist called police to report erratic driving. Mr. Alonzo was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) while operating a bus with a blood alcohol content six times the legal limit.

Inebriated School Bus Driver Allowed to Continue Her Route with 50 Children Onboard

 A Mount Prospect School District supervisor said federal regulations prohibited him from stopping the school bus driver without “actual knowledge” she was intoxicated. The driver, with three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system, was allowed to complete her hour-plus route with the 50 children onboard.
