| 20-year Sentence for Tennessee DUI |
|
A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a 2007 DUI fatality in Jefferson County, Tennessee.
The driver, Roy Wayne Killion, entered a guilty plea. Joan Marie Arrington, a 40-year-old woman with two children, was on her way to work when the accident occurred. Investigating officers do not believe Killion applied his brakes as he crossed over the center divider and hit Ms. Arrington head-on. Killion entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 20 years in prison for aggravated vehicular homicide and driving with a revoked license. At first glance, this sentence seems quite severe for a plea bargain. Killion could have faced as much as 60 years in jail for a single aggravated vehicular homicide offense. The sentencing took into consideration that this was the fifth time Killion had been charged with driving with a revoked license. His license had been revoked, though reports do not indicate how long ago. In addition, he has received four prior felony DUI charges on record. At the time of this accident, Killion's BAC was .17%.
